Klaus Hödl received his PhD in History from the University of Graz. He is the Executive Director of the Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Graz and the Editor of transversal, a journal of Jewish studies.

He has received a Fulbright Fellowship and was a Simon-Dubnow- Fellow in Jewish History at the University of Leipzig as well as a senior fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Budapest and at the European Forum at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has lectured at the Universities of Graz, Basel/Switzerland and at Montclair State University in New Jersey. He is the author of 5 books, among them Vom Shtetl an die Lower East Side: Galizische Juden in New York (Vienna 1991), and 5 anthologies as well as numerous articles.
