Join archaeologists Ania and Wojtek Siwiak on Thursday, Jan. 28, as they discuss the extensive archaeological remains discovered in Bydgoszcz, Poland, in a public lecture sponsored by the University of New Orleans Department of Anthropology in cooperation with UNO’s Center Austria.
Bydogoszcz is a city of 350,000 people that has its origins in the medieval period. Between 1998 and 2014, large-scale construction in the city uncovered considerable remains connected with planning and building the original town. These included streets and wells, churches and cemeteries dating as far back as the 18th century.
The Siwiaks will speak about the late medieval and early modern discoveries in Bydogoszcz as well as how such archeological work has unfolded in the context of Poland’s legal landscape.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the seminar room at the International Center, IC 118, at UNO's lakefront campus, 2000 Lakeshore Dr., 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., with light refreshments served.
