John Connelly holds a PhD from Harvard University and is a Professor of History at the University of California, Berkeley, where he teaches courses on 20th century history. Dr. Connelly is the author of two important books,Captive University: The Sovietization of East German, Czech and Polish Higher
Education, which won the prestigious George Louis Beer Prize of the American Historical Association in 2001, and From Enemy to Brother: The Revolution in Catholic Teaching on the Jews.

Besides these two books, Dr. Connelly has written impactful articles and essays in a number of lead journals such the Journal of Modern History, Slavic Review, Central European History, Commonweal, the London Review of Books, the New York Review of Books, as well as The Nation. Dr. Connelly also finds ample time to be a helpful and warm mentor to graduate students and undergraduates alike.
