Announcing the Botstiber Fellows at UNO

Dietrich W. Botstiber was a graduate of the Technical University of Vienna and an Austrian emigrant to United States in the late 1930s. He enjoyed a very successful career as an engineer in the field of aeronautics in Philadelphia. After his death, a foundation was set up to foster Austrian-American relations by way of educational exchanges.

The Botstiber Foundation of Philadelphia is now sponsoring two full graduate student engineering fellowships (including tuition), starting with the academic year 2008/9 over a period of three years at the College of Engineering University of New Orleans. The Foundation will grant $18,000 for each fellowship (paying out-of-state tuition for non-Innsbruck students). Three fellowships will be awarded during the academic year of 2009/2010

The Foundation operates an international undergraduate scholarship program at Lehigh University. The students in this program meet in New York City in early September for a short weekend. The Botstiber Fellows at the University of New Orleans would be invited to the conference in New York and the Foundation will pay all expenses relating to travel, room and board in New York.

The College of Engineering at UNO ( see http://coe.uno.edu/) offers degrees in mechanical, electrical, civil & environmental, and in the nationally acclaimed program of naval architecture & marine engineering. It also has enjoyed a longstanding cooperation with the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, which builds the Space Shuttle’s external fuel tank and will be central to the next generation of NASA space vehicles. UNO maintains a National Biodynamics Laboratory and a National Center For Advanced Manufacturing at the Michoud facility.

Austrian students at the Technical Universities of Innsbruck, Leoben, Vienna and Graz are encouraged to apply for these fellowships by sending their curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation and a short proposal of why a year of study would benefit their careers no later March 15, 2009, to
