Fifteen Benjamin Franklin High School students are spending two weeks in Innsbruck, Austria, courtesy of the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation and its efforts to help with the New Orleans recovery in meaningful ways. The students are spending their stay in Austria with host families.

Prof. Martin Heintel, geographer at the University of Vienna and 2006/7 Marshall Plan Chair for Austrian and European Studies at UNO, summarizes the state and persistent challenges of New Orleans rebuilding and recovery.

Meinhard Legerer receives the 2007/8 "Nick Mueller Fellowship" at the University of New Orleans. The fellowship was bestowed by Innsbruck mayor Hilde Zach during the opening of the UNO Summer School at the Congress Hall in Innsbruck in the presence of Dr. Gordon "Nick" Mueller.

About 20 students from the University of Innsbruck have chosen to spend the fall semester 2007 at the University of New Orleans. At a New Student Orientation Center Austria's  Director, Professor Günter Bischof, welcomed the students to the UNO campus and to the city.

After having worked together for the first two post- Katrina semesters at UNO, Center Austria's Director Günter Bischof, and his former Graduate Assistant, Martin Frick, a Political Science major, met again at the European Forum Alpbach.

Friends of Center Austria meet for the  UNO-LFU Innsbruck symposium about “Cajuns and Acadians” in Innsbruck.

Some of the University of Innsbruck students introduced their country, culture and traditions to a group of American students in Professor Ann Edwards’ class “America as a Foreign Culture”.

Two highly experienced professionals in the field of diplomacy and international politics, Dr. Martin Sajdik, Ambassador of Austria to China, Mongolia and North Korea, and Dr. Michael Schwarzinger, Head of Unit for the European Council and the General Affairs Council at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs in Vienna, presented their book European Union Enlargement. Dr. Mueller, also current President and CEO of the National World War II Museum - one of New Orleans’ main attractions - talked with Austrian Information about the different stations of his career, his current responsibilities in New Orleans two years after Hurricane Katrina and his strong ties with Innsbruck, Austria.

Austrian radio station FM4 published a report by former Austrian UNO student Martin Frick about spending an academic year abroad in New Orleans.
